Anglers can now purchase licenses to fish in Colorado’s world-class waters while supporting conservation efforts.
DENVER, COLORADO — Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has officially opened sales for fishing licenses for the 2025-2026 season, giving anglers access to the state’s renowned fishing destinations. Licenses are valid from March 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026, and can be purchased online, by phone, in-person at CPW offices, or through sales agents.
Colorado offers anglers over 6,000 miles of streams and more than 1,300 lakes and reservoirs, hosting over 35 species of warm- and cold-water fish. Fishing licenses help fund CPW’s fishery management programs, hatcheries, and stocking operations, which are crucial to maintaining healthy fish populations and sustaining recreational fishing opportunities.

New and Existing Fishing Opportunities
This year, CPW has introduced a new category of designated fishing waters: Colorado Quality Waters. These areas, while not meeting the Gold Medal standard, have been recognized by CPW biologists as highly productive sport fisheries.
“Although these waters do not meet the threshold for Gold Medal, these warm and cold-water fisheries are some of the most productive sport fisheries we have in the state,” said CPW Angler Outreach Manager Dan Brauch.
In addition to traditional fishing locations, CPW operates 19 fish hatcheries that produce and stock more than 90 million fish annually, supporting both recreational angling and native species conservation.

Veterans and Youth Fishing Access
Fishing remains accessible for all ages, with youth 15 and under allowed to fish for free. CPW also offers veterans with service-connected disabilities a Lifetime Fishing License or a Lifetime Fishing and Small Game Hunting Combination License.
For those new to fishing, CPW provides educational programs, classes, and events throughout the year. The CPW Event Calendar lists upcoming fishing seminars and tournaments, and the My CPW app provides real-time resources, including fishing reports and license purchasing.
“Fishing is a great activity to share with family and friends, and the perfect chance to get outside and enjoy Colorado’s natural resources,” said CPW Angler Education Coordinator Andre Egli. “If you are new to fishing, a variety of beginner classes are offered around the state.”
