CPW Forms Temporary Working Group to Address Colorado Wolf Restoration

DENVER, COLORADO – Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has announced the formation of a temporary working group to aid in the implementation of the Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan. Facilitated by the Consensus Building Institute, this group aims to foster collaboration between wolf restoration advocates and ranching interests.

The group’s mission is to provide CPW staff with insights on trust-building, conflict resolution, and strategies for managing chronic depredation. This input will help CPW make informed decisions about agency-directed control actions and depredation permits.

“We are creating this forum to enable stakeholders to come together and discuss issues related to Colorado wolf reintroduction in a cooperative, face-to-face manner,” said CPW Director Jeff Davis. “We’ve brought in a neutral, experienced facilitation team to manage the discussions. The willingness of this group to come together and collaborate on tough issues will help us achieve positive outcomes for all stakeholders in Colorado wolf restoration.”

The working group comprises representatives from both the wolf restoration and ranching communities, selected for their experience and credibility across various constituencies. Members will meet three times for half-day, in-person meetings on the West Slope, with themes and takeaways to be presented to the Parks and Wildlife Commission (PWC) for public comment this summer.

The establishment of this group underscores CPW’s commitment to balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders and ensuring a collaborative approach to wolf restoration in Colorado.
