- Recognize Symptoms Early: Be aware of early signs of acute mountain sickness (AMS), such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, or difficulty sleeping, and address them promptly by descending or resting as needed.
- Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: Both substances can impair sleep quality, especially at altitude.
Pause Your Ascent If:
You’re experiencing persistent headaches, trouble sleeping, or nausea, even if mild.
You feel more fatigued than expected or notice increased heart rate or shortness of breath at rest.
You’re waking up multiple times at night feeling disoriented or anxious.
Symptoms are not worsening, but aren’t improving with rest or hydration.

Descend Immediately If:
