BOULDER COUNTY, COLORADO – Authorities recovered the body of a 42-year-old man who fell to his death while hiking near the Second Flatiron outside Boulder on December 16, 2024.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the man’s friends reported him overdue after he failed to return home around dark. Concerned, they initiated a search and discovered his body on a rock ledge on the Second Flatiron.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Boulder Parks and Open Space Rangers, Boulder Emergency Squad, and American Medical Response, participated in the recovery operation.

The hiker’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
