Mt Lindsey reopens to the public

Mount Lindsey Reopens to Public After Nearly 4 Years—Here’s What You Need to Know

MT. LINDSEY, COLORADO – After nearly four years of closure, Mount Lindsey has officially reopened to the public under a new waiver-based access system. The reopening comes as a result of years of collaboration between the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI) and the Fix CRUS Coalition, working alongside Trinchera Blanca Ranch, the private landowner.

Under the new system, hikers must sign an electronic waiver before attempting the climb, which can be completed in advance at www.mountlindseywaiver.com. A sign with a QR code has also been installed near the boundary of the ranch property to allow for on-site registration, thanks to strong cell service in the area.

Strict Rules for Access

Climbers may only use the standard gully route or the ridge route from the primary trailhead. No other routes or access points are permitted, and anyone deviating from these paths will be trespassing. Additionally, hunting, camping, overnight stays, motorized vehicles, and drones are strictly prohibited.

The re-opening follows the successful 2023 revision of Colorado’s Recreational Use Statute, a key effort led by the Fix CRUS Coalition that reduced landowner liability for allowing public recreation. This change provided Trinchera Blanca Ranch with additional legal protections, helping facilitate the decision to reopen Mount Lindsey.

As a founding member and Secretary of the Fix CRUS Coalition, The Next Summit is proud to play a role restoring access to these stunning 14ers on private lands, including Mt Democrat, Mt Cameron, and Mt Lincoln in the Mosquito Range.

Access: A Privilege, Not a Right

CFI emphasized that access to the 14,042-foot peak remains a privilege and could be revoked if hikers fail to follow the rules. The approach route remains in poor condition, and CFI hopes that responsible climbing behavior will encourage the landowner to allow future trail reconstruction efforts.

For those planning to climb Mount Lindsey, obtaining the waiver in advance is strongly recommended. More information and the waiver form can be found at www.mountlindseywaiver.com.
